Question
Higher education institutions have, quite appropriately, prioritized the health and safety of their students, faculty, and staff. Many have emptied their campuses and utilized on-line educational tools to keep the academic enterprise going. But what about two of the biggest and most cherished campus rituals: Commencement and Alumni Reunions? Both involve hosting many guests from all over the country if not the world; both involve large crowds, often in confined spaces. Both involve guests who are vulnerable because of their age or health. Both have tremendous emotional significance to their participants. Do we just cancel these events? Let's share advice and concerns here in the TH Forum. Together we will all be smarter and better.
